11th Hour

11 Hour Blog

•Describe some of the emotions you felt during the film. Which aspects of the video had the greatest impact on you and why?
I am very worried, lonely and stressed while watching this film. The part of the film that impacts me the most is when I Have watched the chain effects of the industrial revolution, the global warming, and huge disasters/storms. Because I found out that if this continues humanity will be extinct! I don’t want my own species to be extinct. I don’t want humans to be all dead before the second coming of Christ our God.

• What information contained in the video was new to you?
There are several information that are new to me particularly the ways on how to save our mother planet “Earth” by designing our homes, cities that are  very efficient in energy and resources, a more friendly lifestyle just like nature. An example is a building which is designed to do just like what a tree does just as what Architect William, McDonough said.

• What topics presented in the film would you like to explore further? Do you know what you need to know in order to continue learning about environmental issues? If the answer to that question is no, how can you find out what you need to know?
The topics presented in the film that I like to explore further are the ways on how to build, to design, especially to invent Devices/Machines that can do huge impact in our world to in changing it to the BETTER. Yes I know, as an engineering student particularly ME student. I need to know how to invent/design machines, buildings, materials that are friendly and helpful to our nature and efficient in energy.

• Discuss the ways that eating locally produced food is an environmental issue. What can individuals do to support the local production and consumption of foods?
Based on my curiosity about this question, I made a quick research about this and found out that there are seven Benefits these are
Locally grown food is full of flavor.
Eating local food is eating seasonally.
Local food has more nutrients.
Local food supports the local economy.
Local food benefits the environment.
Local foods promote a safer food supply.
Local growers can tell you how the food was grown.
Eating locally produced food is an environmental issue because based on these benefits I learned that it makes us consumers healthier because it is no doubt freshly harvested. Then less transportation meaning less pollution and costing. Also it helps our society/ government economy because we eat our own food and products.
Individuals should choose to eat and buy local products than foreign products.
Individuals should also need to try to produce food on themselves especially in rural areas.

• Who should see this film and for what purposes? Who might be unreceptive to the ideas in the film and why?

EVERY HUMAN PERSON LIVING RIGHT NOW! Should see this film because its purpose is to inform all of us right away on what are the things happening in the world. More importantly all Government Officials, Politicians, Engineers, All individuals that has power to rule in this world.
I think some may be unreceptive to the ideas in the film particularly GREEDY individuals who only think about of making money. Why? Because they don’t care on what consequences might happen on what they are doing, what they only care about is making Money and themselves! Nothing More!

• Share one issue or item that struck you while you were watching The 11th Hour.
The Issue of designing and constructing a beautiful and Modern house just like what a tree does. A house Full of new technologies that are made to save resources, energy by using our main source the Sun. It struck me because as a mechanical engineer this made my dream home to be as modern and efficient as this issue J

• As a result of your having seen this film, what, if any, specific actions do you think you will take?

I want to join the movement, but first I want to be a spectator first so that I would be briefly informed on the actions I might do in the future. One specific action I will take is to inform every person I know in my life to watch this very informative film.

Zero waste
It means setting a new goal for how we live in the world. One that aims to reduce what we trash in landfills and incinerators to zero and to rebuild our local economies in support of community health, sustainability, and justice. Zero waste also means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them.
Why zero waste?

People produce tons of trash in the form of plastic containers, packaging, and a seemingly endless variety of disposable items. Much of this waste ends up in the landfill, where it not only costs money to dispose of, but also damage the environment. Zero waste believe that anything that can be reused, recycled, or composted should be.Zero waste will help us eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health. In short zero waste teach people to preserve and clean the world we are living for our sake and for the future generations to come.

Reflection:
After I have listened and analyzed the video clip about zero waste, I became very concerned in our world today. Just thinking of how we throw our waste here in the Philippines today made me angry and furious. We should STOP creating/producing waste immediately. Our government or media should broadcast this zero waste awareness video here in the Philippines so that all television viewers which I believe almost every people do will make them learn and know the right things to do stop wasting and to start a new life for cleaner and greener environment.
For my ideas, I will download this video and start sharing it to all my friends, family, relatives and neighbors to make them aware of what to do and what might happen if wasting continues.. I will also practice this zero waste program always and forever for my sake and for my future family
